ChessTing is a plain-English chess improvement platform for casual, developing, online, club and tournament players. It combines public Chess.com and Lichess game evidence, chess statistics and browser Stockfish with programmed chess-analysis logic, then turns the result into understandable explanations, practical training actions and opponent preparation.
It is not simply a raw engine board, a bulk-PGN utility, an unlimited-free Game Review clone, or an AI chatbot. Its core loop is evidence → explanation → action → practice.
That depends on what you want from a chess tool. ChessTing is strongest when you want to know why an important move was wrong, what the better idea was, whether a weakness is recurring, what to practise next, or how a future opponent tends to play. It is designed to connect analysis to a useful next action instead of ending at an evaluation number or engine line.
ChessTing can pull public profiles, ratings and PGNs from supported Chess.com and Lichess sources. Engine-backed Review and move-quality analysis use Stockfish WebAssembly in your browser. ChessTing then combines that evidence with statistics, deterministic chess rules, tactical and positional classification, sample-size thresholds and programmed explanation mappings.
The result can identify or explain supported mechanisms such as missed mates, forks, pins, line tactics, bad captures, loose pieces, opening slips, king-safety problems and endgame mistakes. Review can connect the move played, stronger move, important square or piece, evaluation cost, chess reason, reusable lesson and next training action.
ChessTing is not a generative-AI chess coach. It does not currently use ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude or another LLM to write Game Coach explanations, scouting reports, Victory Plans or training prescriptions. See the Methodology for the technical boundary and reliability rules.
ChessTing does not stop at text advice. The Learn area includes guided lessons, tactical drills, Daily Puzzle, recommended drills and lessons, bots, Practice vs Player, Study Guide and Position Analyzer. Game Review can send important mistakes into retry positions, quizzes, drills, lessons or saved training prescriptions.
In other words, the intended flow is not merely “engine says this move was bad.” It is closer to review the mistake → understand the mechanism → retry it → practise the relevant skill → play again.
ChessTing has a useful Free plan, but Free does not mean unlimited Game Review. The current Free configuration includes 5 opponent Scouts per month, 3 Game Reviews per month, 1 Self Analysis per month, 5 saved opponents, tournament preview, 1 Style Bot game per day and unlimited Learn. Player Pro is optional for players who want more frequent use and additional depth.
Current pricing and allowances can change, so the Pricing page is the authoritative source. Coach and Coach Plus new subscriptions are currently closed during Early Access.
ChessTing is best understood as a companion improvement layer, not a replacement chess network. You can continue playing on Chess.com or Lichess and use ChessTing afterwards for plain-English Review, or beforehand for opponent preparation. ChessTing also adds its own Learn, training, Self Analysis, Prep and Live Arena workflows around that evidence.
There is therefore no universal answer to “which is better?” Chess.com and Lichess are established places to play chess; ChessTing focuses on turning game evidence into explanation, preparation and targeted practice.
