Almost every chess tool has a free tier, but the allowances differ enormously — and the meaningful question is not only how many reviews you get, but what a review contains and what you can do afterwards.
| Tool | Free allowance | What free covers |
|---|---|---|
| ChessTing | 30 reviews / month (about one per day) | Plain-English review, retry positions, drills, lessons, 5 Scouts, 1 Self Analysis, unlimited Learn |
| Chess.com | Roughly 1 review / day | Game Review; deeper coach explainers behind paid tiers |
| Lichess | Unlimited | Raw engine analysis — excellent, but not coaching |
| Chessigma | Advertised unlimited free review | Review depth varies — check whether it suits your needs |
| Aimchess | Limited free analysis | Statistical weakness detection; Pro subscription for more |
| DecodeChess | Limited free analysis | Written move explanations; subscription for depth |
Allowances change over time — verify current numbers on each product before deciding.

Scout any public Chess.com or Lichess opponent straight from the home page: the report opens without an account. Sign in to save opponents, spar their style and review your own games.
Scout an opponent free30 per month — about one per day — plus 5 opponent Scouts, 1 Self Analysis, 3 Style Bot games per day and unlimited Learn. The Pricing page is the authoritative source for current numbers.
Lichess offers unlimited free engine analysis, which is excellent if you want raw engine output. Some newer tools advertise unlimited free review. The trade-off is usually coaching depth: unlimited raw analysis is not the same as plain-English explanations with connected practice.
At minimum: the important mistakes, why they matter in chess terms rather than only an accuracy number, and ideally a next action. A review that ends at a number leaves the improvement job unfinished.
